Is studying abroad in Singapore a government school or an international school?
As more and more parents pay attention to their children's education, hoping that their children can go abroad in advance and receive education with an international vision, the trend of studying abroad is gradually biased towards a younger age.
Singapore's mature and advanced educational concepts and abundant and high-quality educational resources once attracted Chinese parents.
1. Singapore Government Schools
Singapore's local government schools have many advantages, such as strong teachers, orthodox curriculum, low tuition fees, and more official backgrounds, which naturally become the first choice for many Chinese parents to choose schools for their children.
As an important means of screening international students, the AEIS test determines whether students can successfully enter government schools.
1. What is the AEIS exam
The Admissions Exercise for International Students is an entrance examination organized and arranged by the Ministry of Education of Singapore for international students who intend to apply for primary and secondary schools in Singapore. As a result, AEIS examination results are currently recognised and accepted by all government primary and secondary schools under the management of the Ministry of Education in Singapore.
International students who are not yet enrolled in a local government school in Singapore and plan to enroll in Grades 2 to 5 or Secondary 1 to 3 in a Singapore government primary school in January next year will have the opportunity to attend a local government primary and secondary school only if they take and successfully pass the AEIS examination
2. What is the AEIS exam?
The AEIS exam consists of two parts, namely English and Mathematics.
The test will mainly test candidates' English literacy skills, mathematical calculation skills, and logical thinking skills. The Ministry of Education will arrange suitable schools for students who have successfully passed the examination based on the availability of places in each public school, the candidates' examination results, and the candidates' residential addresses.
International students who are interested in applying to study in primary and secondary schools in Singapore need to be aware that English is the medium language of education in Singapore. Therefore, all candidates who take the AEIS exam are specially reminded to prepare well before the exam. Candidates should have a clear understanding of the English and Mathematics syllabus for the grade they are applying for
3. Special Reminder:
With effect from the AEIS examination in September 2022, the following adjustments will be made to the Primary section of the examination:
1) Cancel the original P2/3 and P4/5 test levels, and each age group corresponds to the test content of the relevant grade
2) The English test will no longer be set up, and the English test will be replaced by the Cambridge English Qualification (CEQ) test
3) Retain the math test, 7 to 12 years old + each age group corresponds to a different level of math test
4) The CEQ test result must be obtained within 12 months before the test registration before you can register for the AEIS test
5) The CEQ test score needs to meet the score requirements of the corresponding age group before you can register for the AEIS test
